Arkhangelsk is a meeting ground for Ministers from Nordic countries

The Arkhangelsk Region will be one of the key sites within the framework of Russia’s Chairmanship in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region. This was announced by the Governor of the Arkhangelsk region Igor Orlov at the Regional government meeting session.

In October 14, 2015 Russia took Chairmanship in the Barents Euro-Arctic Council (BEAC) over Finland for the period of 2015-2017.  

Within these two years Russia is going to undertake key activities aimed at strengthening of international connections within the framework of BEAC.  The activities will be held in the sphere of transport infrastructure, cross border economic activities, cooperation in energy efficiency, ecology, culture and tourism.

Taking into consideration a successful experience in cooperation of the Arkhangelsk region with other  territories of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region as well as two-year Chairmanship in the Barents Euro-Arctic Council, the region is to be the site where political meetings of high priority will be held.

Igor Orlov stated that in June 2016 Arkhangelsk hosts the Ministers of Culture of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region; in June-August 2016 the city holds the Meeting of BEAC Ministers of Transport. In October 2017 the capital of Pomorye holds the ceremony of Russia’s transfer of its Chairmanship in BEAC to another country. 

 – The economic cooperation within the Barents Region will provide industrial development as well as create new workplaces which are necessary for the northerners, especially for the youth of the region, – Igor Orlov assures.
