Arkhangelsk region Government is to establish coordinative body responsible for preservation of cultural heritage sites.  

At the regular strategic meeting the Governor of the Arkhangelsk region Igor Orlov gave instructions regarding the establishment of the body.    

At present the Arkhangelsk Region Ministry on Culture is authorized in this sphere.  

— Our task is to preserve a magnificent cultural heritage of the Russian North that is recognized as a powerful instrument for regional development. The assessment of the situation in the field of cultural heritage protection proved the necessity of special state body, — stressed Igor Orlov. 

Today the Arkhangelsk region has 1849 cultural heritage sites: 507 of state property and 1340 of local significance.      

Special coordinative body is to ensure compliance with legislative regulations on cultural and historic monuments. It also identifies cultural heritage sites, coordinates their functioning and monitors their state of condition.                    

In 2014 the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region adopted the strategy aimed at preservation of cultural and historic monuments as well as it started to determine the special protection areas where these monuments are to be under constant control.

24 objects situated in the main city of the Region, Arkhangelsk, were included into the Government List of the Most Valuable Objects of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of the Russian Federation.          

— To preserve the monuments much work is being done to place them under control or management of business. Thanks to the concerted efforts of the Government and business community we were able to restore the bath complex “Makaryevskye bani” on Naberezhnaya Severnoy Dviny street. In 2014 Arkhangelsk brewery got its owner – told Svetlana Zenovskaya, Acting Minister of Culture.

At present many unique buildings which have been restored are cultural heritage sites. Among them are Shavrin’s mansion where Arkhangelsk Regional Youth Theatre is situated as well as Surkov’s mansion occupied by one of the city’s music school.

Similar measures are being taken within the Arkhangelsk Region. All the restoration works in the Church of Dmitriy Solunskiy (village of Lomonosovo) have been completed. Due to participation of the Arkhangelsk Region in the special federal programme “Culture of Russia” the restoration works are being held in Odigitrievsky church (village of Kimzha, Mezensky District) as well as in the church in village of Berezhnaya Dubrova (Plesetskiy District). The reconstruction of 

Sretenskaya Church (village of Rikasovo, Primorsky District) also started.
