Pomorye remains a platform for Barents region cooperation

The Meeting gathered 15 representatives of Foreign Ministries of BEAC countries, International Barents Secretariat and Barents region working groups

On March 22, 2016 Arkhangelsk held one of the key political events of Barents region cooperation – Meeting of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council.

The Meeting gathered 15 representatives of Foreign Ministries of BEAC countries, International Barents Secretariat and Barents region working groups and was chaired by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Viktor Ikonnikov, Deputy Chair of Government of Arkhangelsk region, presented its economic potential to European partners and invited investors for cooperation in such branches of industry as forestry, agriculture and tourism.

At the meeting the participants discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the spheres of culture, education, preservation and promotion the culture of the small indigenous peoples.

Anton Karpunov, Co-Chair of the Working Group on Health and Social Issues of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council, made a report  about the priorities and challenges of the Barents Region.

The participants stressed that Arkhangelsk remains an important international platform for activities within the Barents Region cooperation. Next event – Meeting of BEAR Ministers of Transport will be held in June, 2016.
