Arkhangelsk region and Finnmark support 24/7 open border crossing point

May 29 2015 18:30

There is currently only one border crossing point in the Russian-Norwegian border – a “Borisoglebsk – Storskog” station, the northernmost border crossing point between Russia and the Schengen area.

Arkhangelsk region has voiced its support for the Finnmark’s suggestion to introduce a round-the-clock border crossing regime on the Russian-Norwegian border. This measure will promote tourism and business development not only in Norway and Russia, but in the whole Barents Euro-Arctic Region.

According to the Acting Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Igor Orlov, international cooperation between Norway and Russia on the regional level promotes development of good neighbourly relations for the good of both Russian and Norwegian citizens.

Arkhangelsk region and the Nenets autonomous area have a light visa regime with Norway. It is facilitated by the Honorary Consulate of Norway in Arkhangelsk that since 2011 is issuing 250-300 multiple entry Schengen visas monthly. During four years they have issued more than 10 000 visas.

Another example of fruitful cooperation between the Arkhangelsk region and the Northern Norway are successful projects in education, health care, culture, tourism, ecology, and transport.

— Arkhangelsk region works closely with Northern Norway: Troms, Finnmark and Nordland. As of today, we’re working on over 50 joint international projects. In the near future we will continue to implement tourist and transport projects, and projects on preservation of cultural heritage in the Barents region, – Igor Orlov said.
