Igor Orlov participated in the Arctic Circle Forum (Iceland)

The Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Igor Orlov participated in the third international Arctic Circle Forum which was held in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik on October 16-18. This annual event is considered to be one of the main discussion platforms for Arctic issues.

The Forum united heads of governments and states, businessmen, ecologists, representatives of indigenous peoples and scientists.  The President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson opened the Arctic Circle plenary session with welcome address to all the participants of the Forum.   

Among the speakers were  Albert II,  Prince of Monaco, Philippe Couillard,Quebec Premier, Artur Chillingarov, Special Representative to the President of the Russian Federation on International Cooperation in the Arctic, Wang Yi, China’s Foreign Minister.

The Forum deals with wide range of issues including the matters of participation of states in Arctic exploration, polar traffic in global aviation, Arctic public/private partnership, health, climate and natural resources.

On October 17 the Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Igor Orlov made a report at a forum session «Russia and the Arctic”. In his report titled “Regional perspective: Arkhangelsk”,  Igor Orlov spoke about the role of Pomorye in Arctic development, current region perspectives and projects and their implementation on the territory of the Arkhangelsk Region.
