The cultural program of the Arctic Forum:
«Hayar» ensemble, the Northern Choir and mammoth Luba

The State Academic Northern Russian Folk Choir

In the framework of the International Forum «The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue», which will be held on March 29 – 30 in Arkhangelsk, unique cultural events will take place.

During the forum, the folk song and dance ensemble «Hayar» from the Nenets Autonomous Okrug is expected to perform. Moreover, the performance is being prepared by the State Academic Northern Russian Folk Choir. In addition, an organ music evening «Polar Lights of the Organ» will take place, various exhibitions will start their work.

— The inhabitants and guests of the region will have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the wonderful world of the Arctic through art. Exhibitions and performances of famous groups will convey the color of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic, tell about the history of the region and give an opportunity to get acquainted with the world-famous exhibits, – stressed the Minister of Culture of the Arkhangelsk Region Veronika Yanichek.

After the forum, N.A. Dobrolyubov Regional Library will host the exhibition «Russian North in the History of the Development of the Arctic». Visitors will have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with books, periodicals, maps of the late 18th and early 21st centuries, representing the history of the development of Arctic navigation from ancient times to the present.

Books will reveal the significance of Arkhangelsk in the development of the Arctic. One of the sections of the exposition is dedicated to Mikhail Lomonosov, who was well aware of the significance of the transition from the accidental accumulation of knowledge about the Arctic to systematic scientific research and observations.

In the Gostiny Dvor, the picturesque exposition of Alexey Grigoryev «Sedov: Forward, to the Pole!» will be located. Visitors will see the expanded version of the exhibition «Russian Arctic», get acquainted with Arkhangelsk during the epoch of Peter I.

In addition, on March 29 in the Museum of Artistic Development of the Arctic you can see an amazing find – mammoth Lyuba. The unique in terms of the degree of preservation baby is 42 thousand years, although the biological age is a month. It was found in May 2007 by a reindeer herder Yuri Hudi upstream the Yuribey River on the Yamal Peninsula. The exhibition is called: «The Find on the Edge of the Earth.»
