Investment potential of the Arkhangelsk region, its leading industries and economic situation in the current international context were the main topics of the meeting that the Arkhangelsk Region Minister on Economic Development and Competition Policy Viktor Ikonnikov held with the Deputy Consul General of Germany in St. Petersburg Ms Katrin Werdermann.
The meeting was also attended by Aleksei Kalinin, Director of the regional Department of International Relations and State Protocol, and Nikolay Evmenov, the regional ombudsman.
Viktor Ikonnikov told the guests about the Arkhangelsk region investment potential and emphasized that there is a range of programmes to facilitate new investments in the region.
Nikolay Evmenov developed the topic of investment fostering and told about positive experience of SME rights protection in the Arkhangelsk region. This experience received lively response from the German side, as it shows advertence of regional authorities towards investment projects of various scopes.
Viktor Ikonnikov also pinpointed that Arkhangelsk region industry shows a keen interest in joint projects in advanced processing of raw materials and bioenergy development.
Ms Werdermann pointed out German investor’s interest in region’s leading industries: timber processing, extracting industries (especially gypsum and basalt), and projects on civil ships’ construction in Severodvinsk.
She also underlined that the current international context made relations between the Russian and German businessmen harder, but didn’t disrupt them. Ms Werdermann expressed her hopes that the Russian-German cooperation not only stays on the same level, but also develops.
